Where to Go in New Year's Eve in Bay Area

Get your booster and then get your butt out there to celebrate the arrival of 2022, which we really hope is going to be what we thought 2021 would be, but even if it's not—well, who cares? We won't have that info for months! New Year's parties are officially back in SF with a million (slight hyperbole) different party options, including lots of hotel situations with multiple dance floors and open bars. Life is what it is, so you'll need to be vaxxed (out-of-towners, this is a real thing in SF!) and you'll have to wear a mask when you're not actively eating or drinking (but when won't you actively be drinking?), but regardless of all of the COVID stuff, it still promises to feel way more normal than whatever nothingness went on last year, so put your "New Year's Eve is for rookies" attitude away for a night and get out there and celebrate just because you can.

Eat and drink to your heart's content at The Monk's Kettle

Mission
This popular craft beer and wine tavern in the Mission is bringing back its New Year's Eve all-you-can-eat-and-drink soiree, with rounds of passed heavy apps throughout the evening, a dessert course at the end, and an open draft beer and wine list (with a champagne toast at midnight). Guests will be able to mingle indoors and out during the party, which goes from 8 pm to 12:30 am. (Live closer to San Rafael? This party is also happening at the Terra Linda location.)
Cost: $100 (tip and tax included).

Go all out at the "Mother of All New Years" celebration

Lower Nob Hill
M.O.A.N.Y. is one of SF's most popular parties for people looking for a dance party with all kinds of music (three levels, four dance floors, and eight DJs playing Top 40, Latin, hip hop, throwbacks), and, if you go VIP, a silent disco and hosted bar. Table service and other packages are also an option. Cocktail attire required.
Cost: Tickets start at $75 for GA and go up from there.

Fall down a musical rabbit hole at White Rabbit's NYE bash

Cow Hollow
If you want a dance party without the crazy crowds, get curiouser and curiouser about the party by White Rabbit where Chris Clouse will be kicking off 2022 with his "hybrid of live music and fresh beats."
Cost: Admission is $30.

Travel back to the 1920s Gatsby-style at the W San Francisco

The W San Francisco is transforming into Jay Gatsby's swanky estate for its Gatsby's House 2022 party. There will be ten DJs spinning in five different rooms over three floors and a four-hour open bar. Go VIP for access to the VIP-only floor, premium bars, separate entry, and more. Dress code: Roaring 20s (flappers and tuxedos) encouraged and cocktail/semi-formal required.
Cost: GA is $195; VIP is $289.

Attend a Black Tie Affair at the Hotel VIA

SoMa
Hotel VIA is partnering with Moet Hennessy for a celebration that takes place indoors as well as on the outdoor rooftop. Expect three rooms of music (house/EDM, Top 40, disco), a red carpet, a balloon drop, and a great view of the fireworks on the roof (which will be covered with a clear canopy and heated). VIP cabanas, bottle service tables, and a premium open bar are also available.
Cost: GA is $105; Premium Open Bar is $180; VIP table for four is $1,200.

Sip wine and bubbles at the Press Club's International Ball

The wine bar and lounge (there's also beer) is hosting an International Ball with DJs playing EDM, house, Top 40, latin, hip hop, and more, plus drummers, dancers, and a red carpet.

" Travel" to an International Fiesta at the BEI Hotel

The International NYE Fiesta at BEI San Francisco will feature some of the Bay's top Latin DJs spinning reggaeton, Latin hits, salsa, merengue, rock en Español, and cumbia for an all-night dance party. There will be two premium bars, complimentary party favors, a balloon drop at midnight, and VIP table packages with bottle service (plus $300 hotel packages including admission for two and overnight accommodations).
Cost: GA is $45; VIP table for two with a bottle of champagne is $150.

Make New Year's Eve a total drag at Oasis

D'Arcy and the Oasis team are throwing a New Year's bash with three stages of entertainment all night long, celebrating drag, burlesque, and live music. Go VIP for an early entrance, open bar, and hors d'oeuvres.
Cost: GA is $40; VIP is $100.

Spend the night on the dance floor at Public Works

Trailblazing DJ Mark Farina will be spinning his signature mushroom jazz from open to close at this community-minded night club with The Sponges, divaDanielle, and Michio taking over the loft.
Cost: $50.

Start 2022 with a throwback to the '80s at the Cat Club

Girls (and boys) just wanna have fun at the Cat Club, which is hosting a New Wave/'70s disco dance party in the front room and goth and alternative '80s in the back room. A VIP ticket gets you access to skip the line and an open bar until midnight.
Cost: GA is $30; VIP is $85

Dress up in black and white for a Black & White Ball under the Westfield Centre dome

Union Square/SoMa
Partying in a mall may sound strange, but the area under the old 102-foot Emporium dome in Westfield Centre is actually quite stunning and after a few drinks you may not even notice the retail stores. There will be music for every taste on multiple dance floors—Top 40, hip hop, salsa, '80s, and more, plus an open bar for 4.5 hours, and an option for VIP tables. Cocktail attire required.
Cost: Tickets start at $100.

Party on a historic aircraft carrier

Alameda
You have permission to board the USS Hornet on New Year's Eve, where you'll find three dance floors on the enclosed and heated hangar deck, including live music from a 16-piece big band. Food and beverages are not included in the ticket price, but there will be a Hofbrau-style sandwich bar (around $20 per plate).
Cost: Tickets start at $60 and since it's a fundraiser for the museum they're tax-deductible.

Drink martinis at The Dorian's James Bond party

This Marina staple is hosting an elegant James Bond-themed party with a five-hour open bar, casino games, and a DJ spinning all night. Opt for a VIP package if you want reserved seating or bottle service.
Cost: GA: $125 and $140; VIP (sold out), but tables from $1,000 (for four) to $1,500 (for eight) are still available

Go to a huge dance party at the Fort Mason Festival Pavilion featuring Galantis

This party promises to be one of the biggest of the night with a slew of DJs spinning before a performance by the Swedish EDM duo Galantis. There's also an outdoor area with a silent disco, open bar all night long, art installations, and VIP tables. Dress up or don't. Casual is cool at this one.
Cost: GA: $225; VIP: $325

See the fireworks at Sens' dance party

If seeing the fireworks at midnight is a priority, get tickets for the party at Sens Restaurant and Rooftop. Besides a great view of the pyrotechnics, you'll also get two dance floors with DJs playing house, top 40, and EDM, as well as a premium open bar all night. This one is almost sold out so get your tickets ASAP if you want in.
Cost: $175

"Go Your Own Way" at Monarch's party featuring Fleetmac Wood

This intimate nightclub is throwing a New Year's Eve party with a headliner performance from Fleetmac Wood, "a lovingly curated remix project and party, dedicated to one of the greatest bands of our time" that is best described as what it would be like it Fleetwood Mac played at an old school rave.
Cost: GA is $60; VIP is sold out but there are still bottle service tables left.

Get Mighty Real with Mighty Real and Juanita Moore! at the Phoenix Hotel

Tenderloin
Perhaps one of the most Omicron-friendly (in that you can avoid it) venues, this indoor/outdoor party at SF's quirkiest (in the best way) boutique hotel kicks off with a reception hosted by legendary drag queen Juanita Moore! inside of Chambers Eat + Drink and is followed by DJ performances outside on the heated patio until 1 am, when the party moves back inside for one final set by Chuck Gunn.
Cost: Tickets range from $30 to $60 depending on when you buy them. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Imperial Council of San Francisco & The Oakland LGBTQ Center.

Take in amazing views of the city at Cityscape Lounge atop the Hilton Hotel

Cityscape Lounge has some of the best views in the city and since the 46th-floor bar and lounge has wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows, you get them even if you're canoodling in a corner. If you prefer to be on the dance floor, DJ Mojo will be leading the way. There will also be drink specials, small bites, and a champagne toast at midnight.
Cost: $200.

Get down to some psychedelic ocean music at Park Chalet

Ocean Beach/Golden Gate Park
Looking for a laid-back party by the beach? Park Chalet has you covered. The indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant is hosting the Mermen, a surf rock trio that shreds in the water and on stage.
Cost: $30 in advance.

Eat and drink at some of SF's best restaurants

As always, SF's restaurants are pulling out the stops for New Year's Eve. Here are a few that sound amazing:

Estiatorio Ornos : Enjoy caviar service and a five-course dinner at SF's hottest new Michael Mina Greek restaurant. $205 per person.

Nightbird: Chef/owner Kim Alter is offering an 11-course menu with caviar, champagne, lobster, truffles, and more. $325 per person.

Jaranita: This Peruvian hotspot in the Marina is the place to go if you want good food, but also a party. DJ MytyMyke from 99.7FM will be spinning all night and the price of the ticket includes four food/drink tickets for cebiche, empanadas, and all kinds of cocktails. (More tickets available to buy there.) $50 per person.

Scopo Divino: Enjoy a three-course dinner that includes options like fried oysters, beef Wellington, and chocolate gelato with a fudge brownie at this cozy Lower Pac Heights wine bar. Want to celebrate early? This dinner is available on December 29 and 30 as well. $60 per person.

Empress by Boon : SF's newest hot spot led by Michelin-starred chef Ho Chee Boon is offering two special prix fixe menus with decadent Cantonese dishes. The first seating (starting at $158 per person) is from 5 pm to 6:30 pm and offers nine courses. The second (starting at $228 per person) is from 8 pm to 9:30 pm. Wine pairings are available, of course.

Le Colonial : A dinner for two with champagne or a three-course family-style meal are both on the menu for New Year's Eve. $225 for the dinner for two and $90 per person for the three-course family-style meal.

One Market Restaurant: Want to be on the Embarcadero so you can snag a great spot to watch the fireworks? This classic SF spot is offering a three-course menu with two seatings, the first at 6 pm and the second at 8:30 pm. The first is $125 per person and the second is $175 per person.

Che Fico and Che Fico Alimentari : Che Fico is offering a four-course tasting menu featuring a truffle gnocchi and wood oven-roasted bistecca with spiny lobster ($195 per person with an optional $90 wine pairing). Its downstairs sister restaurant is offering a three-course, family-style tasting menu featuring braised lamb shoulder with an optional add-on of lasagna alla bolognese topped with truffle (and also has outdoor seating) for $110 per person. Want to enjoy your meal at home? There's a pick-up menu with options like caviar for two, black truffle lasagna bolognese, and bottles of bubbles.

Alexander's Steakhouse : Indulge in a decadent six-course menu that includes hamachi shots, Wagyu tartare, kampachi crudo, white truffle spaghetti, lobster (with black truffle supplement), filet (with ribeye and hida supplements), and a dessert. $250 per person unless you start adding all of those supplements, in which case: way to live your best life.
